The primary aim of this course is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic and ever-evolving field of IT. Our program focuses on developing the theoretical knowledge, technical skills and practical expertise necessary to thrive in the modern digital landscape. By fostering a deep understanding of core IT concepts, programming languages, networking protocols, database management, cybersecurity principles, and emerging technologies, our aim is to empower students to become adept problem solvers, innovative thinkers, and effective IT professionals. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, hands-on projects, and industry collaborations, our program aims to prepare students for successful careers in various IT domains, including software development, systems administration, cybersecurity, data analytics, and IT consultancy.

    Course Learning Outcomes

    • Understand the role of typical commercial development tools used in Information Technology.
    • Understand and critically evaluate the problems and constraints operating within large Information Technology projects including the role of standards, methods and tools
    • Critically evaluate state-of-the-art tools and techniques currently used in Information Technology applications.
    • Critically appreciate the constraints operating within a typical Information Technology application.
    • Work effectively and appreciate the role of working within an Information Technology development team and to be able to explain the conditions necessary for successful team working.
    • Communicate ideas both in writing and orally according to appropriate academic or professional standards.
    • Know when and why you need information, where to find it, and how to evaluate, use and communicate it in a concise and ethical manner in specific relation to the needs of particular stakeholders in the Information Technology industry.
    • Research and evaluate information from a number of sources.
    • Apply formal and informal creativity and critical thinking techniques to the solution of problems

    Entry requirements

    Higher Diploma Entry Requirements

    Minimum of one pass in three main subjects at the G.C.E (A/L) Local or London Examination obtained in one at the same sitting in any stream.

    TOP-UP Entry Requirements

    • Edexcel Higher Diploma / Advanced Diploma or equivalent qualification
    • SLIIT / SLIIT City Uni / NIBM / NSBM / ICBT / ACBT /
    • APIlT – Completion of diploma / Higher Diploma / HND

    Completion of this course will open up a wide range of career opportunities in the IT industry. Our graduates find work in the computer industry leading to long-term and specialised positions in fields that include programming, systems development, customer services and IT management. Possible roles include IT developer; IT system architect; IT consultant; database developer; mobile app developer; data engineer; and information engineer.
